Comments: Thanks to K0BJ and K0FJ for driving over from Kansas for this contest. Everything went great except for the bear that broke into one of their vans. Living in the woods on a mountain top at 9,000 feet is great as long as the wildlife cooperates!

Comments: First ever entry in this contest. Had a great time! Both 15 and 20 open to Asia 18+ hours each day.  Always a pleasure to work Asian and particularly Japanese stations with their excellent and courteous operating techniques.

Comments: Didn't plan on it being a 21 hour contest! Lost three critical hours late Saturday afternoon while an electrical storm sat overhead. With the radio off and antennas grounded, all I could do was watch. Lightning bolts hit everything except the tower. Observing QST's Jeeves advice of "Safety First" is very hard when you're missing a big JA run on 15 meters!

Comments: Conditions were perfect. Of the 21 hours on, 18 were spent in European and Asian runs. Too bad ten won't still be like this in a few more years!

Comments: Everything working perfectly three hours before the contest was not a good sign. Two hours before the contest the weather changed and it starting snowing. The power station several miles away toward JA that only puts out line noise when it snows burst forth with S9 line noise. That dashed my hopes of starting the contest with a long JA run on 15 meters.  Saturday morning the wind picked up and S9 snow static started.  My apologies to all the Europeans who thought I was deaf. By Sunday morning the weather had cleared and at 7 AM and I was ready for a long run of Europeans. At 7:01 the power went out. The power company told me later a bird got into a circuit breaker on a major line. After power was restored at noon I kept the rate meter around 150 for the next two hours. How much did I miss Sunday morning? I don't want to know. Anyway, I'll have my standby generator ready for CW WPX just in case!

Comments: Noise and static way down from last year but it seems activity was down too (because of better HF conditions?). Heard no Europe this year (or South Dakota and Alaska!).

Comments: Started the contest having just driven 700 miles with too little sleep and stuffed with too much turkey so only managed26 hours of "on time". But the great conditions made up for it. Activity was up but, because both 10 and 15 were open most of the time, it was spread over more frequency space thus QRM was way down.  JA runs went for many hours and running Europe on 10 meters made me feel like I had moved to the east coast! 1999 should be a really great DX and contest year!
